Unicoi County Heritage Museum
If you like to learn more about the history of the region the best place to visit is the Unicoi County Heritage Museum. The building was erected in 1903 as a residence for the Superintendent of the National Fish Hatchery in Erwin. For decades it was one of the grandest homes in the county until 1982 when it became too expensive to maintain it. The Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce decided to renovate it and turn it into a museum. Today, the museum features 10 exhibit rooms with each focusing on a different theme. One of the most interesting features is a wooden walkway designed to look like an early 1900s Main Street with apothecary, doctor, dentist, barber shops, a general mercantile, a post office and a bank.
